We had a critical hardware failure here at the ranch. After shelling out a few bucks we got her fired up again.
Back...

I just got back from Missouri last week, where I figured I'd be able to get some work done on the site, maybe get a few more images done. Nope. I spent about an hour or two drawing, and that's about it. I just spent the time relaxing with my family, and barely got the urge to fire up the tablet.

Well, I'm back now, and you should start seeing some new pictures soon. Stay tuned.
Things going on... merchandise, and tech stuff

I've been rather quiet lately. You might've been thinking that I died or something, but I guess I'll have to disappoint you once again. Although I was in a 3 car accident, and had a sprained wrist for a week or so, I'm pretty much ok now.

Anyhoo, I've been doing a bit of work behind the scenes here. I redid all the database stuff to get us off the old MS Access crap, and into a real MySQL database. That went surprisingly well, but I'm still expecting to see at least a few errors turn up in the server logs.

I've also been working with John on the hamjob store. So far we've gotten some bumper stickers done, and you can expect to see more stuff added soon. As of right now I have a couple old images in there for clothing, but those need to be updated. There will be a spot for the store over on the left margin, but that won't be up until the store is ready. You can check it out from here in the meantime though.
2008, Herpe New Year!

Well, here we are in yet another year already. I'm not sure where the last one went, I was just starting to get used to it.

I just fixed a bad hard drive in my tablet, and it's way too cold to work on the Dart, so we just might be seeing some updates to the site soon.

I'm not lazy, I'm just busy
Posted By: GoatTuber at 7/11/2007 2:08:21 PM
Most of you have probably noticed that I haven't gotten much work done on the site lately. I've posted a few articles here and there, but I haven't touched my list of bug fixes and new features in a month or so. It's not that I'm lazy... well, ok, so I am lazy, but that's not the reason. I recently bought a 1972 Dodge Dart Swinger, and she's pretty beat up. So I've spent the past month and a half working on her. At this point, the car's almost street legal, and hopefully I'll be able to get it registered next week.

I'm on vacation from my day job next week and have a ton of stuff to get done around the house, plus get a bit more done on the car, but I should have plenty of time to get some overdue changes done on the site. I already have a pretty good size list of bug fixes and new features already, but if any of you have any other ideas you'd like to see added, post a comment and let me know.

... and here's a look at the Dart:

Say hello to Hamjob the pig
Posted By: GoatTuber at 5/22/2007 2:30:11 AM
Well, after thinking long and hard about it, and then spending a bit of time working on it, I've decided that the site needed a face-lift and a new name. I originally just started writing code and putting together some graphics, not really knowing what I was going for, and called it ViolentReaction.com. I think the site looked good and all, but that was because I had written it for my own tastes. As people started coming in and using the site, I realized that most people wouldn't like the look and feel of it. So a few months ago, I decided to put everything on hold for a bit, and take a new approach. I came up with Hamjob the pig a while back as a personal joke. Then one night while I was sitting here thinking about how to make the site more user-friendly, that was when I decided to make him the site's mascot, and name it after him. Today I'm pretty happy to finally unveil the new name and look of the site, hamjob.com.
Holy hell, it's back!

After a good 3 week nap, ViolentReaction is finally back online. We lost a critical fan, which caused the entire machine to be unusable until it was replaced. I'd have to say that it's quite a design flaw, as the reason I purchased this server (Compaq DL380) was because of its seemless failover capabilities. It has dual processors, mirrored hard drives, and dual redundant power supplies. If any of those fail, the server will happily continue to run. You can even replace a failed hard drive or power supply without shutting the machine down. This cheap (as in cost of materials) plastic fan proved to be the server's achilles heel. Thus, instead of a $10 price tag that it deserves, a replacement (if you can find one) will go for somewhere around $60 refurbished. So, I ordered one, and to kick me while I was already down, they never processed my order. I had to find another company that carried them, then they dropped the ball as well and forgot to send my invoice. After another call to them, they finally sent over the invoice, which was signed and faxed back, and my replacement fan was finally on its way. So, here we are again.
Lots of changes to the site

Well, I finally finished up the latest set of updates to the site. You can now update your account info, upload a picture, set up a Hitlist (a list of your favorite links), and send and receive Shouts (personal messages). All the links to view profiles are working, so when you see someone's username on a link, it should send you to their profile. Yey.
Profiles, anyone?
Posted By: GoatTuber at 10/18/2006 10:21:17 AM
I'm finishing up work on the profile pages. Your profile will include your latest posted Articles and Reviews, a Shout box for people to send you private messages, a Hitlist to let people know about your favorite sites, and a place to write your own message for people to see. I'm considering adding an Avatar option, so you can upload your own photo, or some other image. Would you be interested in the Avatar idea? Is there something else you'd like to see on profiles (yours or someone else's)? Post a comment and let us know.
